One of our birdhouses at the Prineville property is home to a lovely family of mountain bluebirds. We spent several hours sitting on chairs nearby watching the tag team of dad and mom feed the babies, remove soiled nesting materials, etc. The area has a bumper crop of cicadas, so it should be a well fed family.
None of these shots is particularly artistic. I've never been great with the 100-400mm, even on a tripod, so they seem a bit soft to me, but I thought you would enjoy seeing the activity.
What fun! And a treat to see these birds. Mum and Dad must be a bit haggard with both feeding and lookout duties. Wonder if you'll get to see them fledge. Thanks and please keep us up to date on how they are progressing!
Thanks, Catherine and Steve. we won't get out to the desert again until mid-July, so we'll miss their inaugural flight. In the past, however, we have watched family bug hunting with the juveniles for weeks at a time. One of the chicks pushed its head and breast out the birdhouse and looked around while we were watching. It wants to fledge soon, but we found ourselves saying no, no, you still look like a frog!!
