I'm at Portland for the week and I want to shoot Trillium Lake before I leave on Saturday morning. The forecasts show that Thursday will be partly cloudy and Friday will be clear.
Here is my dilemma : I want to head to Cannon Beach on Friday for Sunset. So that leaves Thursday evening or Friday morning to Visit Trillium lake. However, Doing both Trillium Lake and Cannon Beach on the same day may be too taxing.
Do you guys have some input on whether Sunset or Sunrise is better at Trillium?

Just reading your posting and I don't see any responses from our PNW landscape experts. The disclaimer is I mostly shoot birds and while I have shot Trillium Lk a few times we have several photographers much more knowledgeable then I. Since it is already thur. afternoon and having seen the latest weather forecast for the mountain it would be my suggestion to wait and shoot Trillium Lk and Mt. Hood at sunrise tomorrow.
We currently have overcast conditions at the mountain that are expected to move out overnight and hopefully find clear skies in the morning. The lake is south of Mt Hood and so you are shooting north and can hope the rising eastern sun will provide some color on the mountain and/or remaining scattered clouds. I believe going tonight will find enough cloud cover to prevent a colorful sunset, but things can change rapidly so their may be a slim chance this evening.

I just checked the forecast for Government Camp tomorrow - Sunrise 5:21am 55F with 27% chance of cloud cover
