Today, as firefighters were on scene fighting a wildfire near Prescott AZ, 19 members of the hotshots crew lost their lives. I normally don't post these types of things, but this one hit me pretty hard. Please give your thoughts and prayers to the families and community effected by the loss.

A horrible reminder of how deadly these wildfires can be. I seriously hope something like this never happens again. These guys and gals put their lives on the line for us and I hope that doesn't go unnoticed.

19 !!! Certainly a testament to how tricky these fires can be.
Apparently all of their shelters were deployed, but that still didn't save any.

19 at once is just too many. How horrible for them and so many family members. This is even worse than the Storm King tragedy near Glenwood Springs that claimed 14 lives. One news channel reported that 43 have lost their lives in Arizona just this year so far. Be safe and thank you to all who try to protect us.

Terrible indeed. Prayers going out to the families and friends of these 19 brave souls as well as the 250+ families that have lost their homes.

We saw that late last night. These were hotshot fighters which means they were very well-trained. That means the firestorm from the wind must have been incredibly overwhelming, how horrible for them to experience as their last activity. Can you imagine how horrifying... and now 19 families with such a tragic loss.

And 250 lost homes... we hear this every year but it's hard to wrap reality around that. Think of the street you live on, if a house burns down that's very un-nerving... if FIVE homes next to your house burned, how crazy would that be? It would be like a war zone in the neighborhood you counted on as home and safety. So 250+ homes burnt out?? I can't imagine... puts a new perspective on what's important.

Thoughts and prayers is an understatement. :frown:

A sad deal...I have the deepest respect for the brave men and women who put their selves in the line of danger to fight these fires.

This tragedy should not hve happened. The weather was easily predictable well in advance, very basic fire weather situation that no one should have had to face. Something is wrong and it better get fixed.
