Scenic Beach & Seabeck
My wife and I camped at Scenic Beach State Park on Hood Canal a week or so ago and for those interested in wild Rhododendrons, it should be a very special place in late May to early June. There were still a few stray blossoms, but the entire campground is an understory of tall Evergreen Huckleberry and Salal with Rhododendron sticking out above it in a second growth forest of Douglas Fir and Madrone. As an added bonus for bird photographers, the Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons flock to Seabeck and a bridge a few miles before it for the Sculpin runs in the spring. About half way between high and low tides (the lower the better) matched with sunrise works very well. The bridge and tide flats in front of it are amazing for Bald Eagles.

Here's a sample eagle shot. Have fun.

Excellent image; especially like the position of the eagle. I have been there (some friends live near Seabeck), and the area is a photographer's dream. In a week or so we will be spending some time with friends who have a home on the canal near Union where the eagles and herons battle for sculpin, etc. Sure is wonderful to have such good friends.

I've been there, too, during the sculpin run with the eagles and herons, and it's a blast. Nice to know about ops in the Union area as well.

Fantastic shot of the Eagle in flight, Dennis. Wow, tack sharp!

Spectacular. I like the symbolism of the eagle's trajectory...echoes articles like "Is America in Decline". Wonderful detail and exposure.
