At the moment two juvenile Great spotted woodpeckers regularly visit my garden. They often perch on an old tree stump ...

Hi Sandra . The bird looks fine but to be honest I feel the stump is a little overpowering. Perhaps a tighter crop? Just my personal opinion of course others will feel differently no doubt.
They really are characters, this year we only have one inthe garden-usually half a dozen !

Lovely soft tones on this one Sandra. Am undecided on the perch, I suspect if seen hung on a wall it would look great. Whatever the views on it I wish it was mine.
Hi Sandra, I would agree that the stump is a little dominant within frame and that perhaps if it was possible a move to the right to get more of the subject in might have been better. You have some nice detail contained within the subject, especially the plumage. Depending on how you feel but I would drop the magenta in the white breast plumage, but your call. A hint of Selective adjustment in the blacks & neutrals gives it a nice pop. If this is a set up them as I said move a bit more to the right and try tighter in if possible. I think you might be right on the border with 1/160, but with a tripod, well. The BKG helps separate the subject nicely.
Thanks again for your comments. It is very much appreciated.
@ Steve: Thanks for your advice regarding composition and processing. The breast plumage of a juvenile is not completely white, but has a bit of a pinkish glow. And of course I will try the adjustment in the blacks and neutrals as suggested.
