Independence Day Morning at Chatfield
Spent a couple hours out at Chatfield this morning photographing birds. Hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday.

Love the ruffled up bird in #2 and #5 with the nicely curved perch, great work all around.

Nice set, Kurt. I like the last one with the curved perch the best.

Hi Kurt, all submitted images look fantastic. Curious, are you shooting a Canon crop sensor? If so, what are your thoughts about the new Canon 70d?

Nice as always, Kurt. My favs are 4,5.

Fantastic photography from the master. #'s 2 & 5 are my favorites, but I like 'em all. Excellent work, Kurt!
Note that all of them are somewhat underexposed. I assume this is a conscious choice on your part, but Levels adjustments on all of them seem to give them much more 'pop'.

Thanks for the comments and feedback everyone.
@John: My histogram shows a touch underexposed, but felt they looked to bright when I adjusted the exposure a touch more. wondering if my monitor needs to be re-calibrated?
@Kane: I have not looked to closely yet, just the highlights. I do shoot a crop sensor, but my 1D MIV has a 1.3 and the 70D is a 1.6. I used to use a 7D awhile back and was happy with the results except for the noise level. I haven't seen the noise tests on the 70D yet, but if they are as improved as the other new bodies I've seen, it'll b a great camera....especially at the price they have it at. I'll let you know if I get a chance to try one out.

"...felt they looked too bright when I adjusted the exposure a touch more, wondering if my monitor needs to be re-calibrated?"
I didn't think they looked too bright at all when I played with a few, but if your prints match what you see on the screen, then you're good..

I think my favorite is the Western Kingbird. Good reflexes to catch those guys taking off. I agree with John about the exposure as they appear a bit too dark on my monitor as well. My initial reaction was that they looked like they could have used some fill flash to brighten the feathers (with the exception being the sparrow), but then after studying the backgrounds I think that the images just need some extra overall brightness added, probably a plus 1/2. Still great shots that I would be proud to own.

More top notch work, Kurt. I'm partial to 4 and 5, too.
