I recently did a loop up through central Idaho by way of US 93 through Nevada. Cathedral Gorge State Park is situated about 175 miles north of Las Vegas along 93. It is a small area and can be seen in a couple hours and well worth a short visit. What I found interesting here is that the erosion at CGNP's clay based soil is vertical rather than the horizontal erosion found in the sandstone slot canyons like Antelope near Page, AZ.
#4 - In the slot. They become very narrow and some form a V at the ground so narrow that you can't place two feet next to one another. You need to turn sideways to get through. I found no slots that had an exit- they became more and more narrow and dead-ended.
I agree it is well worth a visit for anyone visiting the Vegas/Zion area. I found plenty to keep me interested for an entire day,
and would have stayed much longer, if the weather/light had been more interesting.

Yet another vote for #5. We jus don't normally see anything like that.
I've had a co-worker suggest Cathedral Gorge as a trip; and in fact I was a mile or two away one very long traffic detour last summer (coming from St George). But I really did not have an idea what was there. Your shots definitely show the place has something worthwhile to visit.
How was the local critter count out there? Drop me a line next time you are in the Southern Nevada region :)
Thanks for the replies everyone. I see that #5 gets the overall vote of satisfaction. I thought #4 was the best of the bunch but that goes to show how helpful it is to get them out there for public perusal. I appreciate the suggestions and Karl- I will drop you a line the next time I'm up toward Vegas.

Very nice, and yes, #5 is striking.
