Thats a great pose well captured Keith. Not sure about the crop though, landscape might look better. The head looks a little soft so it might want another USM pass. Great BG and the post lichen compliments it very well. Was this early morning as it looks warm?
Excellent behavioural shot but the harsh light has given a strange effect around the lower head shadow. It looks as though the shadow is part of the head, Could be sorted with some shodow detail enhancement but would maybe need a few passes. The whole image looks a bit too heavy on my cheap gear so maybe the shadow detail would sort that out too. The whites look very bright .The fence post is not the most rustic of ones seen in Yorkshire but you can't have it all I suppose.

This seems very negative but after all it is a critique forum after all-is it not ?
Hi Keith, I think the small issue that you have is probably through the processing side. Looking at the larger version the detail in the whites is all there, you just need to drop/juggle between the sliders for Exposure, Highlights & Whites to bring out the detail you originally captured within the RAW. Basically I think you went a tad to far to the right, but easily retrievable Keith, so don't worry, you nailed it in the original. The shadow cast by the head angle looks fine to, as you get the mottled plumage coming through, not heavy not to light, looks good. I like the behavioural posture, adds interest. The blue looks ok but I think now there is a hint of Magenta coming through, more noticeable in the post, again a quick fix. Sharpness looks OK as you can see the detail in the legs, nice to have the catchlight too, brings life into the image.
Agree with Nick, I think a landscape format would be better, with more space to the left.

Well captured, I'm a behaviour fan too it adds a further dimension to the image. Thanks for sharing, I benefit from the supporting critique too.
