Earlier this year, the side of echo cliffs slumped near the cut and took out a section of highway 89 that leads north up to Page. Here is an update of its status and future repair. Sounds like Route 20 from The Gap will be available by Labor Day to will shorten the detour that now is east of Tuba City.

If I read this right, I'll still be able to do 89/89A from Tuba City to the North Rim, correct?

That detour is ginormous - best deterrent ever from a drive in that general direction. The pre-planned improvements to N20 sound like they'll be a blessing.

Bob - if you come across 89A through Lee's Ferry, then you'll hit 89 at the south end of the closure and can continue to Tuba City.
[EDIT: or vice-versa. Yes.]

Bob, yes, the route to the north rim through Lees Ferry is still open. A side note is that Marble Canyon Lodge (the restaurant/gift shop portion) burned down a week ago.

Thanks Les and Doug. Road falls, Lodge burns down...is the area snakebit?

That was such a convenient place to stay for Grand Canyon raft trips.
Thanks for the update.
