As the headline says, this is from last Friday morning east of CB. No sunrise from the clouds but I thought it made for a different mood.
Two shots, one for front focus and one for back focus and darker sky. Brought the flowers back up, brightness/contrast/focus adjustments in NX2, then masked the two together in PS Elements. Trying a sort of focus stack without the focus stack specific software. Thoughts?

Nice, I like the stormy mood it brings into the picture.

Beautiful work Joshua: I like the quiet mood of the shot withthe dark sky in the background. Thanks for sharing.

The field of flowers is flush and there is good broody clouds. Might you be able to brighten the flowers right along the horizon so they really contrast against the darker sky?

Impressive hillside. I like the mood.
At this size, your manual focus stack looks good.
This light works quite well for me as it adds so much more interest rather than the typical "sunny" flower image. At least on my monitor the flowers almost have a 3-D appearance. Well done!
As mentioned, at the resolution presented, the mask looks good. Does Elements have a align/stacking feature like Photoshop? I was just curious why you went the masking route?
Thanks everyone! At first I was kinda bummed by the weather, as I was looking into the valley. Only after turning to change lenses to shoot some macro type stuff, did I see the stormy clouds rolling in above these flowers. "Hey that might work!" :) I recently upgraded to PSE 11, which allows masks. My old 7 edition did not. I do not think Elements has a auto stack feature like full blown Photoshop. I'm just diving into it honestly. Lots to learn, interface is totally different than what I'm used to (NX2)
