I'll be in Rainier from Aug 7th-14th, what are the chances I can get a walk up campsite for the week? Is there any place to car camp for a night so I can check first thing in the morning on Thursday for a site? Thanks in advance for any help!

Aug 7...mid-week...you should have plenty of car-camping spots available. Backpacking...my daughter and a friend tried and succeeded to get a permit to go to Emerald Ridge and showed up early this last Sat morning for one of the walk-up permits they distribute that day...and got one. She had tried online and their lotto system...which failed. So...rolled the dice on the walk-up.... Win. I give you good odds...get to the permit office...Longmire ...or other ..as soon as they open the doors.

Zack, two things: 1. I just spoke to someone who hiked around Naches Peak in Tipsoo area today. She said a bit of fog and a lot of wildflowers made for a wonderful day. 2. Are you related to Rick Clothier?
