Are you interested in a return to Trout Lake? I had to miss it last year so I'm planning to go this fall over the weekend of October 18th. A few others have decided to join me. If you are interested we would love to have you join us.

Would love to join you, Steve, but I'll be out of town that weekend. Hope you have some decent weather. We woke up to snow the next morning last year. So we were able to cover some of the areas twice due to the difference in weather. Looking forward to what you and your group post on here.

So far it looks like 7 of us will be going. A few of us will be staying at the Cosy Cabins. There is also Trout Lake Valley Inn on Hwy 141, and there's a camp ground at Trout Lake, Guler-Trout Lake Park.

I will be heading down on Friday morning the 18th and staying through Sunday.

I would love to see everyone there!

Goooood! Sure looking forward to this! :jump:

I'll be at the Trout Lake Valley Inn-- right on Hwy 141, just before entering Trout Lake.
Huckleberry waffles-- yum! Coming down Friday and staying through Sunday.

I won't be able to join you because my day job will be a weekend job next weekend--major deployment to production. So, I went up there this morning to check it out. The color is spotty, and muted in places, but it should be much better next weekend. I hope you all have fun and bring back some great photos...here are a couple from this morning...to give you an idea of the color.

This one is from Conboy Refuge. It is open, so be sure to check it out.

My chances of slipping away next weekend were (are) low, so like David I visited this past Sunday and Monday. Since I've photographed quite a bit in this area, I had originally planned to hit Rainier. However, I was able to catch Adams exposed when I was at Conboy, a first for me.

I did find signs saying the Refuge was closed to access, but I think that only means actually walking onto the property. All the public access roads are open to driving and parking. If you shoot from the roadside, I don't think there is a problem. There were also Forest Service signs saying that recreational areas (and activities requiring a permit) were closed, but it was no problem to drive the area. (I was amazed how few hunters there were; I guess they are closed out like the rest of us. I really feel for these small communities; they need these busy times to survive the slow.)

The aspen weren't real bright. They are either dull this year, or hadn't yet reached peak (more likely). The maple is doing well. I bet next weekend will be the sweet spot for color overall!

Have fun!
