Tree Sparrow
Tree Sparrow Passer montanus
1dII, 500/4, 1.4xII, 1/400s @ f/5.6 Ev+2/3, ISO200, Handheld.

We had a few sightings of Tree Sparrows on our feeders over winter and where hopefull that they would stay (they seemed to like the new seed mix!) during the summer.

A few weeks back we spotted a lonely spug chirping away by a couple of old tit-nestboxes in our back garden. We weren't hopefull that he would find a mate, but he has and they've taken over one of the boxes . They're an incredibly attentive pair, they're never far from each other! Hopefully, if all goes well, we should have some youngsters appearing in a few weeks time . If they succeed this year, then I'll have to see about rigging up some of the boxes to take CCD video feeds for next year!!!!

Gosh, - these are now extinct as breeding birds in Berkshire  - you could charge for twitchers viewing in my neck of the woods!

Hi Nick
nice picture and good to give the Sparrows a home.

Certainly a rarity in our woods.
Good to hear of nesting boxes being occupied by non targeted species.

The bud on the rhs of the bird is the only downer on what is otherwise a clean image.

Cheers,

Nice shot John! Sorry I missed it first time round... Like the colourful background, diagonal perch and pose... wonderful light too. :toast:

Another shot missed  Not seen one of these this year, which is pretty sad. Cracking birds with more work to be done to support them. You have captured this beauty brilliantly Nick, well done :toast:
