The wildbird viewing at Ridgefield NWR has been extremely slow. Our long hot and dry summer has left many of the refuge ponds and sloughs with little water. The US Fish and Wildlife Service has the ability to pump water from the Columbia but are probably waiting for our fall rains to mark the change of seasons. I've made a few visits over the past month and on 2 occasions did not get any worthwhile bird photo's. This Belted Kingfisher was shot at the end of April. Doing what Kingfishers do, sitting atop a tree stump and pond looking for his next fish.
Excellent. I'm always amazed at how crisp you bird images are. This is a lovely pose with great catchlights. At first I thought the feather in your watermark was a fish dropping from its mouth. Duoh.
