Once again it's time to display my total technological ignorance. Here's the situation: I'm starting to travel a lot for work and have to carry a company laptop. I've been told it's verboten to load any private software on it and it's a little underpowered anyway. So..I'm trying to decide what sort of quick photo editing device I should carry along on my trips. Right now I'm leaning towards a Windows 8 tablet of some sort. Anyone out there have experience with these devices and love/hate them?

I dunno about tablets, but my latest laptop has Windows 8--and it's a miserable OS--im seriously considering reformatting. hope that helps

Gee, I'm relieved to know I'm not the only one who feels Win8 sucks. I've got Win7 on both my laptop and desktop and that what I'm sticking with until MS comes to their senses.

Bill, maybe you should first look into the mobile photo editing software/apps & see what's available & if you like any of them. I put the PhotoShop mobile app (don't even remember what it's called) on my iPad & thought is was fairly useless. Couldn't even organize them into folders. If you carried a MacAir you wouldn't be so limited, but it'd be really light.

Bill: What is this "Windows" thing of which you speak? I know only of the forbidden fruit.

My wife has 8 on her laptop, but no touch screen. Talk about maddening and useless. Hate it. I do like me some 7 however on my desktop.

Thanks everyone for the input. I ended up getting a notebook computer. Just a tiny bit bigger than a tablet and a whole lot more powerful. Already downloaded LR and some other stuff. It is small enough to fit in my computer bag with my work laptop and not add a terrible amount of weight. Taking it on a shakedown cruise out to the Bay area on Labor Day.

@Bret: I understand technology is sometimes late arriving in the outback. Next time I see you I'll explain it all.

I have a Nexus 10. Sharp image and good color. A little reflective but still holds up well outdoors. I use it as a digital portfolio. Battery life is decent, I'd say 5 hours at full power. You can get close to 8 with auto brightness and wifi off with little to no use of the unit!

If you have an iPhone with apps since you are on a different platform you have to repurchase any app.
