OK, what a day! I was out early this morning fog on the prairie for sunrise and things kind of fell apart. I normally am very careful with my steps as I had a total knee replacement in 2006 (a different story, not something I don't want to have repeated anytime soon). I was stepping through some tall prairie grass and hit a hole, boom! I landed on top of my D90 with a 18-200mm and had my brand new Induro CT414 tripod with my D300s(with a Nikkor 300mm F4 prime with a Nikon TC 1.4 tele in my right hand. The good news is I'm seem to have come through somewhat unscathed. Some scrapped knees and bruised ribs(compliments of the D90 around my neck). The D90 only suffered minor injuries, a broken battery cover and lens hood. My concern however is my primary rig. Everything seems to be working OK with the exception of the TC1.4 teleconverter. It was really hard to separate it from the lens. It seems the mounting ring (lens side) on the TC is bent. I've tested many different combinations since I've been home and am confident that my D300s body and the Nikkor 300 lens are OK. I guess I have two questions, does anybody have any idea of a ball park figure for a Nikon repair of my Tele? Second although I don't have what I'd call an astronomical investment in gear it is substantial for me. Will gear insurance cover the stupidity of the photographer? (ie stepping in a hole).

P.S. After a week let me give you my impressions of the Induro gear. A CT414 with a BHL2 head. Absolutely rock solid!

Wow John. Glad you are ok. Hope the equipment isn't too badly damaged.

Glad you are OK John!. As far as the equipment goes, do you have any insurance (home owners or otherwise) on it which may cover any damages?

Whoa, John!! I'm sure glad to hear you are okay. That's the most important thing. Depending on your insurance coverage and deductible, your gear should be covered. I haven't had to test my insurance yet, but in purchasing it, I did ask all the questions, including yours, i.e., photographer drops gear or falls with gear in hand or has dog pull over tripod, etc., etc. If there's a way to break it, I've done it. Again, thank goodness you and your knee are fine.

Your lucky you did not break your leg, hope the gear will weather well !
