Here's a couple from the other night. Same tight spot (not many flowers left), shooting different 100-120mm focal lengths. Had to do a bunch of DOF blending. Also was dealing with Flare.
BTW, shot these with my new Canon 6D! Speaking "sensors" It's a better sensor than the 5D2, no doubt. While incremental (if that) improvements in other areas to the 5d2, the obvious ISO improvements in sensor technology for the landscaper will make the tiny investment a worth while.
I took artistic liberties with both of these shots. I don't mind "piercing" light, it freezes me and makes me feel great, like I'm there! I hope they feel right to your eye.

Love the "Larger Photo" version. Flare is ok by me in this use.
Jealous of all the front-rangers having access to those fields of sunflowers.

Nice conditions and flowers here! I think you did great for not having many to work with.
While I prefer the composition of the 'Larger Photo' with the big flower up close and personal, the sunstar and sun itself are too heavy and dominating for my taste. The skies in this first version are much nicer with a more 'tasteful' sunstar, smaller sun and the rays emanating into the clouds complementing the sunburst real well. Perhaps you can tone down the yellows just above the sun? Fine work indeed, Kane!

A bit too much flare in the big version IMO. I like this one above a lot, but there is a slight dilemma with the warm light--it really washes out the greens which for me is part of the attraction of these fields--the great yellow/green contrasts. But boosting the cool colors too muchwould wreck the warm tones, or might look unnatural. The only thing i can think might help is to boost the brightness/sat of the yellows in the petals--especialy towards the back (they're backit, afterall) Anyhow, it's a cool shot and probably only needs a minor tweak or two.
