Today at Photoshop World Adobe announced their Creative Cloud Solution for Photographers. My friend Justin Seeley has a nice writeup about this on his site:

The down and dirty on it is:

$9.95 per month gives you Photoshop CC, Lightroom 5, 20GB of Creative Cloud Storage, a Behance account, ongoing updates and upgrades and access to the Creative Cloud Library of online training resources.

I'm thinking a lot of photographers will find this quite interesting!

I did some casual searching on Adobe's website just now but was unable to find any info on this. I suspect they will put info on this up in the next day or two...

Ah I fat fingered the price! $9.99 per month... That's $119.88 annually. I'd call that a good deal!

The offer will be available when LR 5.2 is released, probably a couple of weeks. In the FAQ on the Adobe blog, there was a question about those who already subscribed to CC as a one product subscription. The answer was that those subscriptions would automatically be converted to the new option. Nice. Yes, I believe many will find this an appealing option.

Also, according to the Adobe blog: You must have CS3 or later and you must upgrade to this new Creative Cloud option before December 31, 2013. The price of $9.99/mo will remain the same and won't change; i.e. this price is not a promotional price if you upgrade before December 31.

Personally, I'm happy with CS6, and I don't need Lightroom or the other items in the package. So, I'll stay with what I have. I will say that is a better deal for photographers than the full Creative Cloud subscription.

The price is certainly more reasonable, but all of the problems noted earlier with the whole "creative cloud"-based subscription system are still present.

I see it as Adobe trying to make nice after getting slapped down by everyone with the whole subscription-based model. But not fixing what folks are complaining about.

I'm with Jim.
Adobe, BAHHHH! I have everything I need with Cs5 and NIK. 2Gb of storage is nothing. So pay 'em $119/ yr while they laugh all the way to the bank. "...the price will stay the same." Don't count on it!

Yes the new price is more reasonable but that is not my main concern.

I have many hours tied up in Lightroom key wording and collections. If Adobe decides down the road to make LR a cloud only application and my catalogs are several generations above what I have now with the stand alone product, those higher generation catalogs will surely not be able to be read by my current version. If for some unseen reason I had to stop my subscription, my catalogs would become useless and all the work I have put into DAM would be for naught.

I have to decide whether or not to just upgrade to the latest version of LR and stand pat or go with the cloud. PSCS6 is more than I need for editing but the LR piece has me on the fence. Damn you Adobe!

David .. Save your raw files in DNG format and tell LR to write all metadata and previews back to these files. You can recreate your catalog from scratch in MediaPro if necessary down the road.

Walter,,,,thanks for the tip.At least all of my key wording would not be lost if the worst happened.
