Well, I can scratch off a bucket list item with a recent visit to White Pockets. As the title suggests, I didn't feel I was on planet Earth. What a bizarre area and although there are many photographic opportunities, I felt overwhelmed on how to capture it best. I took this broader scale image just so I could show friends an overview, rather than even attempting to describe this conglomerate of rock? In many ways, I enjoyed this area as much as the Wave. No doubt I was fortunate to have the late season monsoons fill in some potholes making reflections a possibility. The rains must have quite impressive over a large swath of southern Utah/Northern Arizona in late August/early September. Many roads were washed out, limiting my travels. In fact, even the access down White Rock Rd was closed at Buckskin Gulch for a day.
C&C of the image welcome as usual.

I like this a lot! The water and reflection combined with the light quality really make this one standout by giving the photo a feeling of depth. :toast:

Man, this is real nice, Ken! Great skies, great light, great reflection and a fine composition. I love how the shadowed area encompasses only the foreground ridge. Excellent conditions and excellent work!
Did you spend the night? Any problems accessing the area?

Thanks for the comments, gents. Obviously, I was fortunate to have some nice conditions come together. But only for a few minutes as the sun set. Must have been a comical seen as 3 of us were running around like madman trying to capture the best scenes.

Yea, I did spend the night near the parking lot. No problem with access as I did rent a Jeep Cherokee with huge off road tires. However, the access I took, BLM roads 1017-1086-1087 and wasn't too bad at all. Only a few spots one would have to really worry about. That said, there had been considerable rain the last few weeks which certainly helped pack the sand. I still was glad to have the Jeep and everyone's advice on this site on what to expect!

A really beautiful image, Ken! It is an amazing and overwhelming place. That being said, I think you did a wonderful job of bringing it into focus. I love the colors, textures, and sky/rock/water elements. Absolutely beautiful!
