A really cool video of an "interaction" between a bear and a pack of wolves in Grand Teton NP. The video is great and the soundtrack is very interesting as well.

Sorry you have to cut and paste but I don't know how to make this a hot link but the video is well worth the trouble.

Robert, never seen anything like that between wolves and any bears before. I've seen them fight over dead carcases in the past. Amazing to see of course the wolves and how they are the top of the heap in pack hunting skills. Thankfully the bear got into the thicket just in time and obviously there were no takers going in there after him.......

Wolves and Bear

Looks like a young black bear. I doubt the wolves would take on an adult of either species of bear. Towards the end of the clip when the bear was defending itself they showed respect for the bear's defensive abilities. Interesting video for sure.

Definitely a grizzly, based on the shoulder hump and coloration (you can see the lighter fur running down the shoulder, which is common among grizzlies in the region). Not the biggest bear, but it certainly looks like a grizz to me.

Wolf sightings in the Tetons are tough to come by. So cool to see such a big pack out in the open. I love the kid's commentary too.

The video was fantastic but the "commentary" put the show over the top. Dad had a lot of patience!

A predator will always chase and attack if it feels that it may have a chance for a kill. The bear showed fear and was trying to stay away and run from the wolf and then all the wolves. That fear and evasion is exactly what triggers a predator's instinct to chase and kill. That is why you don't run from bears or wolves or any predator.
