Hi All,
Here is another from my trip to the Owyhee / Leslie Gulch area. The trip was almost rained out, but we spent one morning, early afternoon in Leslie Gulch before looking for higher ground for camping.
This is a shot from the road into the Leslie Gulch area where rock formations become quite dramatic. I was playing with lens flare a bit. Not sure whether this works:
7D with 16-35mm at 16mm
ISO 100, f/11, 1/320s
Handheld
Super shot! Dramatic clouds and rock formations-- looks like a cool place to go.

Very nice image Marylynne. I like how the dappled sunlight gives the image a lot of depth. I played around with a few different crops and I prefer a 4x5 crop with less of the bright sky and clouds at the top of the image. In my opinion, the 4x5 crop brings the focus back to the interesting rock formations, which I believe are the main subject here.

I like it, it tells me to get out and explore and find the beauty around us, and it doesnt have to be thirty miles off trail where no living soul has ever been, supposedly, but it is just up the road and all you have to do is get out and explore and it is there, where people drive everyday but may not even see what is before them. Its the road to anywhere, everywhere and the beauty of it all.

The light and rock formations are very cool. You captured some nice sun beams coming off the clouds. I like how the cloud on the left almost seems to be coming out of the rock tower as from a smoke stack.
Hey, Marylynne, I think Scott has a good suggestion, there, about cropping. I too like the effect of a crop off the top of what might be about 1-1/2 inches. It still retains balance in the comp and the light rays; and I think it brings the viewer right into that wonderful rock formation and on down the road.
Thanks, everyone. I've had a crazy week and missed some responses. The crop will be great...provide more balance, emphasis on the rock with just enough cloud drama. Thanks for the help.
