I was out to Rowena on Monday evening and found this guy off the trail and in the woods. I broke out my 70-200 and zoomed in on him.

Most of the Balsamroot is fading but if you hike further up that ridge you can still find some nice ones.

Damn, that was fast. Anybody got any reports on irises at higher elevations? Like, say, over by Silver Star?

Thanks for the update Mark. I wish I could have made it out there more than once. When I did go there, they were just starting. Everyone was just killing me with their awesome shots.

Sad image...sad to see these much anticipated flowers go. There are other parts of the state one can still catch these in full flourish.
There are, of course...other blooms to watch for in the coming months.

It was great while it lasted - especially being there with my buds! :toast:

The Balsam Root is still going strong in the Tumwater Canyon west of Leavenworth. Lots and lots of bright lively bouques of Balsam and Lupine. I didn't get anything worth posting last week, but it's there if you have time to make the trip.

Mark,
The DOF and the details, and color, are superb. Nice, very nice indeed!
