Arizona Fall Colors?

Anyone know what the fall colors are looking like on the Mogollon Rim and just below, i.e. south and east of Payson? Sedona area is probably on the way out, right? Any other areas in AZ looking good now or within the next couple of weeks?

Bret I explored both Oak Creek Canyon and Horton Creek outside of Payson this last week and the colors in both are pretty much done. Last I heard from Oak Creek is that the majority of the trees are bare and the leaves are all over the place. Most leaves have fallen over by Payson as well. Might be a few more days of good color but that is it. Sedona should be looking good right now with the golden cottonwoods but not sure how long that will last. It was pretty windy up north yesterday so the possibility of leaves falling is good. Will have to hear more on that. I noticed the colors around Phoenix (yes there are fall colors around these parts) are just starting to turn in places like the lower salt river. Might be a few weeks until that area is prime, but it is extremely beautiful when the colors are popping. Places down south near Tucson should be looking good as well. I haven't traveled much down there but know there are a handful of locations that can get good color.

Thanks for the update, Peter. I do remember the fall colors around Phoenix! I lived in Scottsdale for 18 years. Still miss it some times! We considered Tucson but not sure we want to travel that far this time around. Maybe next year...

If your down around PHX around the end of November and possibly most of December let me know. It would be great to meet up and shoot. That seems to be when the lower salt river area turns color. There are some spots in the superstitions that might have nice colors as well.

As much as I'd like to be down around PHX at that time, I won't. That's the best time for mountain biking down in my old 'hood!
