Zion Update

I arrived here yesterday afternoon, and it's certainly a mixed bag for the colors---some cottonwoods have lost all their leaves. In other places, it's OK but definitely not a banner year. The maples are toast. Nice sunset last night, and from my location (not the popular bridge), the trees were just fine.

I hiked the Narrows with friends today, lots of people, lots of photographers. I'd say that it was definitely not as good as last few years, but there were still opportunities for good pictures. This is the view from the rock part way up the canyon.

I encountered several workshops along the way in the Narrows, thought everyone might enjoy this snapshot of a group at work....

Was the sunset from Saturday or Sunday night? Curious if I missed a better location - as I headed out to Kolob Canyon Sunday night chasing the clouds that might have gotten past me.

Saturday night. Cloudy this morning and a little rain forecast. Could be starting to clear this afternoon, might set up another nice sunset.

Pretty sunset, Rod. Thanks for the report--i missed Zion this year and im not feeling too bad about it.

Yep, gonna miss it this year. The reports influenced me... My plan was to head out there next weekend....thanks for saving me $400+ in gas.

BTW, Rob, you had nice conditions here, certainly worth hooting and hollering about when shooting. But this one is not an easy one to post process. That cloud up and just to the right of the Watchman is a tough one to keep honed in while showing some nice brightened detail in the shadows.

Good report. I will be there Sunday and hope I can see some colors.
