I have a photo I want to use as an avatar. I use Ligthroom 5 and I'm using the same process I use to post photos. When I have my photo open, I export it to a separate file for NPN and I set out the parameters for the export. Works fine, except for this. I've changed the dimensions to 48 x 48 and tell it 10kb max. I get an error message back saying it can't make an image that meets the 10Kb limit. Any idea what is going on here? Thanks for any help.
Peter, sometimes the file limit factor can be a hair off. In fact, I always have to size my images for galleries at 295 & 495 respectively for the standard size and larger versions just under the allowable sizes of 300 & 500.
So, if you've not scaled it down on the low end in the range of say 9.0 and maybe on the high end at 9.9 you might give that a try.
Might be the issue.....
Check your file to be sure there are no alpha channels and/or metadata. If there is, it will be unlikely you'll get the file size to be under 10KB. If you have Photoshop, use Save for Web and be sure 'Optimized' check box is checked. This will strip any metadata. If there are alpha channels, you'll need to delete them before saving as a JPEG.
I have run into the same thing Paul spoke about. If you size a file to be exactly the size required by NPN, the upload will generally fail because FTP adds some overhead to the file.

I tried both ideas and it seems to have worked as the file size is good. I suspect it may have been the metadata but I did change the setting slightly as well. If the avatar is attached to the response, I know it worked. Thanks for the help.

Well, it worked for this message and everything I've submitted in the past. Wasn't expecting this to be so far ranging.
