Hello! Tomorrow I am moving down to Ridgway. I love it here in Boulder but every time I go visit my friends in Ridgway I love it there too, so I'm going to give it a shot.

A question for you western-slopers out there... are there any reputable labs out that way to get my color 4x5s developed? Or should I send them out to PhotoCraft? Is that even possible? Any suggestions?

Also, anybody know of anyone or any shops with an epson 9800/9600 out around there, who would be willing to make prints for a reasonable fee?

And finally while I'm at it... any house rental leads in Ridgway would be much appreciated, so I don't have to stay at my friends' place too long!

Thanks! Oh, and I'm about to pack up my computer so I might not be able to respond soon. :wavey:

Congrats on the big move, Jack. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is envious. Whatever you do, make sure you've got your own place by fall, and you should probably expect 30 or so 'visitors'.

Congrats on the move, Jack. Enjoy the San Juans!

I guess we know exactly where this year's fall gathering will be taking place.

Good luck down there, buddy. Enjoy it and keep in touch. :toast:

Congrats Jack!
I can't offer any specific advice on Labs, printers etc. but Montrose might have all that you're looking for but expect to pay a premium price. I know where you can get excellent matting done at very reasonable prices fairly close - Mattes and More out of Cory (up by Delta).

BTW, are you going to play professional photographer there or do you have other work lined out? Just curious because it's pretty difficult to find a "decent" job around there (or anywhere on the west side for that matter).

Thanks, everyone! Ridgway fall gathering sounds good to me! Seriously, give me a shout if any of you visit the area.

Chuck - Thanks for the matting advice. I am always "playing" professional photographer... but my main income comes from freelance web design, which I do from home. All my clients are remote, and all my jobs come from word-of-mouth referrals, so hopefully that will keep up!

BTW, does anybody mail their film off to get developed?

Hey Jack,

Sounds like a great place to live, maybe see you in the fall, or next winter at the Ice Park. When I shot film I always sent it to A&I (http://www.aandi.com/) and was always happy.

Given the portfolio you've already amassed, it's a scary thought to imagine what kind of photographic damage you can do with the mighty San Juans at your doorstep. I'm already drooling with the anticipation of seeing what you get!

Jack,
I've used The Slideprinter here in Denver for mail order film developing. Their prices are reasonable quick turnaround, postage paid mailers, and they do 4X5. In the hot summer time, I've a little paranoid to do mail order film developing, but could just be me.

Good luck with your move. SOonds great!

You are one fortunate guy. Happy moving!
Photocraft does business from all over the country. Good luck

Jack, I just moved into Pagosa Springs and I want the same answers. Jeesh, Photocraft is a long way away, but the lens is much closer to the subjects we want.

Congrats on the move, Ja ck! It's wounderful having work that gives you that kind of flexibility. Every time I travel to Ridgway, the area impresses me more as a wonderful place to live. I guess I need to buy an Epson 9800 and move out there to provide you prints.

When you visit Grand Junction, stop down on main street and visit with
Scott Parsons at 13 Photography. 13 Photography is a new gallery and supply place.
Scott Parsons is a photographer himself, with lots of experience in printing. He has
new printing capabilities coming online, as well as equipment that you can rent on the spot.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I am down in Ridgway, the weather is beautiful and I already went on my first hike yesterday! Got some shots of the Needles range from Snowdon Peak, across the Animas river valley. I will definitely be getting up amongst those peaks this summer!

Congrats Jack!! You're gonna love it!!!

Wish I would have known, as I just got home from there about an hour ago!! It was the last stop on our nine day Utah extravaganza! We camped up County road 5 last night with Darren K, shot sunrise this AM, and bolted for Denver. Next time I'll definitely look you up!

We expect lots of San Juan updates and images you realize!! Good luck!
