I've got an iPhone 4 and am thinking about upgrading. I'm curious what apps to aid shooting with a DSLR (not shooting with the phone itself) that others recommend, and whether those are available for iOS or Droid phones, or both.

I'd also appreciate any thoughts, plus or minus, on switching to a droid phone.

I use The Photographer's Ephemeris. http://photoephemeris.com/ . It's free for PC. Not available for Android. I chose iPhone over Android for the sole purpose of being able to have this app with me. I doesn't aid directly in shooting with a DSLR, but it is a great to make sure you are in the right place at the right time.

Buck,,,,I agree its a great app and it is available for android,,,,,I have it on my Galaxy S3. I also use Exposure Calculator. I switched from apple to android and it was a bit of a learning curve but once up to speed its fine. I like the options of having easily replaceable spare batteries and SD card memory.

For evening (starscape) photography, check out PhotoPills. You'll also find tutorials at their site.

David - I didn't realize TPE was now available for android.
I know one who switched from Android to iPhone and felt that it was more intuitive, but 'til now no one who had switched from iPhone to Android.
I degraded my iPhone 4 by installing iOS7. Oops.

Another app I find useful is Tide Graph.

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the feedback.

One thing that I'm wondering about is whether any of the Android phones have more accurate GPS sensors then the iPhone 4. I know the iPhone 5 is much better, but apparently that's only available through AT&T, and I've given up on AT&T.

IPhone 5 is now available through Consumer Cellular. (Carrier is Verizon, I believe)
