It may be a bit early for this since we still have over a week to go, but I thought I'd start the ball rolling with my favorite nature photography moment (not sure if it's my favorite image). Sitting in the back yard on the evening of May 3rd and taking pictures of songbirds, this Sharp-shinned Hawk landed on a log feeder at point blank range and allowed me to take a burst of shots in lovely light before departing.
As a bird photographer, these unexpected gifts cause my heart to race and I pray that I have the camera on close to the right settings as I fire an initial burst. I'm high for hours afterward, and I still feel it now when I look at the images.
I hope you all have many such moments in the coming year.

Awesome moment, and excellent capture, Dennis. Well done!
I've had a few moments this year, but not as many as I'd like...I plan to change that in 2014. This shot is from Ridgefield; The Columbian White-tailed Deer were translocated to Ridgefield NWR this past year. I came across a couple of them and was able to get shots from less than 10 feet away...this is a full frame shot, at 600mm. When I got back to the entrance, a ranger who had held back behind me while I was shooting, said, "I thought that deer was going to lick your lens!" Very special moment.
This is such a great idea for a post, and 1st two photos, that I thought to feature the thread. Thanks, Dennis, for getting us rolling!
David, wow, what a great opportunity at Ridgefield. Both of these photos make my heart jump and remind me why I love photography.

I really like this concept of "Favorite Moment" even more than "Top Photos" of the year.

I like this thread and wish more folks would add to it.
This is from our trip to Trout Lake in October. It isn't a great photo but I thoroughly enjoyed the night excursion and the light painting.
