I dropped the battery for my 1d2 on the garage floor and the casing has snapped off,I can put the battery part in the camera and the outer lockable part keeps it in but its in 2 parts-not dangerous and still works but not ideal,I have never bought a back up battery but will now need to,I have looked on e-bay and you can get 2 for under £40 whereas they are £100 at warehouse express,Has anybody used after market batteries for the 1 series,I have batteries for my 20d from 7day shop with no problems

Hi Dave,
I`ve used 2 pattern copies bought from Ebay, alongside my original since early last year when the 1D mk II came out and have had no problems whatsoever.
I can`t tell the differnece between the copy and the original, apart from the price!!!!!

I bought non-branded backups from 7DayShop and the charge outlasts the Canon branded battery.

Same as Elliott, I bought the non-brands from 7Day and am using them happily in my 1DIIn.

I'd never use 3rd party ones personally. I have read several stories online of people having all kinds of issues with both Canon and Nikon bodies when using 3rd party ones. I'm sure there are plenty of happy folk out there too but I'm just not prepared to take the risk of a failure further down the road and when I least expect it. If you've got an expensive body its just not worth the risk putting in something cheap in my opinion. You can get official batteries from Hong Kong via eBay that are much cheaper than over here. Thats the best route to take I think.

That said, if your lucky enough to have 3rd party ones that perform as well as originals and they have a shelf life just as long then thats great!

Hi Dave,i'm sure they are all made in the same factory with different names,as you know we have both tried the 3rd party ones and no probs......7dayshop...cant beat em
