Hi folks,
My wife and I would like to plan a trip to the Charleston area to coincide with the azalea bloom. I now the general rule of thumb is the middle of March through the first week of April. I was wondering if that timeframe would be appropriate this year.

Thanks for your help,
Ed

Good question. I'm heading to Charleston in late April. I will be watching for replies. I thought this board was about dead. Good to see a post.

Hi Ed and Andrew. I keep pretty good tabs on the bloom here in Charleston. Thus far, all I can say is that the last week of March is usually ideal. Last year half the azaleas bloomed in January....this year we had ice twice in two weeks...insanity! The cherries are currently trying to bloom, as are the red buds. I'll post updates and current images on my Facebook page as the bloom begins. You can find me under Kate Silvia Photography...if you like the page and set it up as a favorite, you won't miss the updates in the news feed. I also will post this info on my Google+ page. I was giving Tony Sweet weekly updates last year and others really appreciated it. Late March is my favorite time of year here in Charleston...and I'm out shooting several times a week at that point. Hope I can help with your plans. I love this town!
