OT: En Vacance with the Honu
Instead of my usual SW road trip, I went to Maui instead. After a rough start (forced to gate check photo roller bag as I was in the last boarding group, which resulted in damaged underwater housing but not the important stuff, then a screw-up in my lodging reservations as for the first 5 days they put me in for last month  ) I finally got in the water. Less than stellar conditions, but it's started to clear up. I only have my laptop (and thus slightly limited software) to edit on, but I can look at any suggestions after I get back in a couple of weeks & have my big monitor. Hope you enjoy looking and it helps you feel warmer!

I am a big fan of this! I hope things continue to improve for you out there. We are heading to the Big Island this summer...fingers crossed for turtles!

Swimming and photographing with the turtles must be a great experience. Hope the rest of the trip is trial-free for you and you get plenty of images to present and share.

Good choice! Maui is great, and my wife loves the whales after our trip there in '98. Nice underwater shot.

Excellent image! Love the way you composed it, and the processing looks very good.
Looking forward to seeing more from your trip. If you couldn't come down here, then Maui is a fine consolation.

Very nice turtle image! Makes me feel warm inside! What type of underwater housing did you use?

Thanks, everyone for your kind words. Don, I got a Nauticam housing for my Canon 7D. I've had Ikelites and Canons for my P&S, but wanted to step up to something that would enlarge better (thus the camera choice). The dome port is a Zen 230mm so I can use my 10-22mm lens which has optical glass. I zoom with my fins, so I didn't get the zoom ring. The whole thing creates a huge amount of drag when swimming. With my P&S, that's just what I did. Now I'm thinking about composition as I'm holding my breath, equalizing my ears and trying to stabilize in the surge, maintain depth and make sure I don't float into coral!

I can't imagine the challenges with underwater shooting, but would sure like to find out someday. BTW>...love Maui and swam with the turtles a few times. One of my favorite species....so I am loving this post....my only nit is with all the top water and angle of the surf, it gives the feeling it is not level (even though it really is level). Not sure if this is flu frame, but if you have the room, I would place the turtle more towards the top third and loos most of the top water and angled surf.
