Usually when my daughter and I go to Yellowstone we try and go the week after Memorial Day. This time that's not possible so I'm looking at a couple of options for planning. Can anyone tell me:
1. The average (not specific time and date) period when wildflowers might be close to peak?
2. When do the bull moose start polishing antlers in preparation for the rut?
On a completely separate note, has anyone given any thought to scheduling a 4th annual Spring Fling?

For flowers, you might give Dean Sauskojus a shout. He has a Yellowstone e-guide

Yellowstone really isn't known for floral displays. It does have flowers but they don't usually synchonize their blooming periods with each other. For individual close ups however you should find some by late June and extending into late July, early Aug. I have seen unreal lupine photos combined with the Tetons as a background but these types of photos are only possible with the magic of Photoshop blending of multiple images taken in more than one place.
If I remember correctly, moose lose their velvet in late Sept to mid Oct., and their rut starts in late Oct through November.
If you're after fields of flowers, some of the best spots are the hill country of Texas in April, southern Arizona in late March to late April, southern California (near Lancaster) in early to mid April (this year CA will probably suck though), Mt Ranier in mid-July to early Aug, Crested Butte and San Juans of Colorado in July.

Bill,
I've been thinking of a summer wildflower fling, but willing to work on a spring fling. Any ideas?
