If you want a place to photograph without the hoards try the Great Basin Desert, the only people I saw the other day when I was mucking about on the Utah/Nevada border were a couple of shepherds.

Thanks for looking and C&C if you want to.

Nice work Jeff. I would like to have a week or two to really explore that area. Each time I travel through that region my eyes always wander to the horizon wondering what goodies await a solitary drive. The cracked pan really grabs the eye in #1, the shadow and contrast make for a nice scene in #2. In #3 I like that color in the sky but the boulder kind of blocks me from moving freely to the horizon.

These are fantastic. One of my favorite places on earth is the border zone between Nevada and SE Oregon. Nothing by wild burros, hot springs, and solitary beauty.

I'm with Mark: #3 is outstanding. Composition, subject matter, the light - it's all awesome. I need to get out there and explore the area.

Hi Jeff, this is a really nice series of off the beaten path images. I especially love your second shot with the nice comp and awesome golden light. Your first post is my second favorite image. Would love to see that one with a B&W application. Number three is a cool shot but that boulder dominates a bit while all that killer light over the mountains intrigues me. Great set.
I really like #3, "Last Light in the Desert". If you don't mind my saying, I think if you were able to lighten the boulder in the foreground, it might help the transition between the near/far areas. I'd also try to add just a touch more warmth to the sage, and maybe even push the foreground shadows a touch cooler to help accentuate the contrast between the sage and the boulder. Beautiful shot; thanks for sharing something from this neglected region!

Nice set of images Jeff. My favorite is number 1 with the cracked ground, I also like the sky in number 3 but like a couple others also feel like the boulder dominates the scene a little to much. I think Mark's idea of brightening the boulder...it seems like a good idea to me.
Great shots! Each photo was taken with really unique perspective. Thanks for sharing!

I love the light and variety of wide angle compositions.
We had hopes of exploring the Utah/Nevada border area in January, on our way to or from northern California. Unfortunately the weather in both directions just kept us on the highway. Next time!
Nice series from a lesser photographed area. I even like the composition and light/shadow interplay in #2. The less than optimal light is not a liability at all.

Great series. You are right on about the lesser photographed areas.
