I am in the process of changing my commercial website.
Currently it is a flash site which sucks.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Smugmug and Zenfolio are the two I hear about most often. I've used both. Each has its pluses and minuses.

I have also used Smugmug and Zenfolio. I found Zenfolio a lot easier to use.

I really like PhotoShelter. Shoot me a note if you're interested in more details.

I also use Photoshelter extremely easy to use and have a free trial period : http://mbsy.co/photoshelter/350360

I use Zenfolio. I'm interested in what Myer says about Photoshelter being "extremely easy to use," because some years ago I had the trial period and couldn't get anywhere with it. Someone else I know, who got their Photoshelter site around that time, confirmed that there's a steep learning curve attached. So, I wonder whether they've made it more user-friendly for non-computer-geeks. I say this because I think Photoshelter is much better than Zenfolio for SEO. I have sites on FAA and Etsy and I've sold things there; never sold a thing on Zenfolio and am considering downgrading it to a noncommercial site, unless I were to change to Photoshelter.

Rick,
I recently set up with Zenfolio and have been pleased with the results and the cost is very reasonable for the services and great tech support they provide. They are constantly adding new features and upgrades and the top level hosting (the only way to go for a professional) is only around $250.00 a year and easy to use. I am also pleased with the variety of products, services and quick turn around time of the photo labs available thru Zenfolio.
The one important point that I have not seen discussed here is the fact that having a web host for your site that you can sell your work from is only one piece of the puzzle. You still have to build the site yourself to suit your style and your photography and more importantly you have to market your site to create traffic to it. Just having a site in no way means the world is going to look at it until they know about it. Getting the word out is the most important part of creating traffic to any web site.
Good luck, Mike

I have just started a web site at zenfolio. Can you rename your web site and still have it hosted by zenfolio?
Posted by Buck Ward on March 2, 2014 at 1:14 PM
Yes, Lucy. You can use your own domain name.

I'll put in a plug for PhotoShelter. I am far from being considered proficient on a computer but found the various templates and styles available on Photoshelter pretty easy to figure out. Great tech support as well.

Zenfolio it is and after fighting the menu for a couple of weeks I got it down and like it.
