Monte Vista "Other Birds"
I got back from a weekend in Monte Vista. When I do go, I usually like the weekend after the crane festival so I am not fighting bigger crowds. This year, the weather was much better than expected (except for a few hours here and there). Unfortunately though the crane numbers were low in the outer pools which in my opinion is the best place to photograph so you have good lighting conditions. Despite, I did manage a few good crane images, but also managed to make images of other flying friends, so I wanted to share them first.

This first is a red-winged blackbird and is a species which always arrives when spring is right around the corner.

The American Coot death match. This is actually a turf war and is not how they mate.

I enjoyed the unique action some of which I have never seen not being a "bird" guy. I was craning for a crane at the end.
