Doug Koepsel won second place ('honorable mention') in the Landscape category at the 2013-2014 Arizona Highways Photo Contest! This is really quite a feat when you consider the number of folks entering this prestigious event, but the beautiful otherworldly b&w image of his from the Grand Canyon was leaps & bounds above all those other entries.
Congratulations, Doug! This isn't your first Arizona Highways win and I'm convinced it won't be your last.

Hmm, star shots are really in these days I suppose. Whatever....The grand prize shot just doesn't connect with me. Nice scene, nice comp and nice processing. That shot during the day with crazy light would be just as good as the night shot, but wouldn't win this contest. Its all about the stars and I'm not sold. Wonder what that image looks like printed around 16x24 or slightly larger.
Doug, your shot is truly spectacular and well deserving. I love the true sense of mystery & isolation, and the black and white application is perfect. Your image speaks to me, and, I bet it looks perfect way bigger than 16x24. Congratulations my friend.

Yes, congratulations, Doug! Your image really stands out among the other landscapes among the winners for the fantastic composition, mood, and originality. The recognition is well-deserved.
