Hi Everyone

Taken a week or so ago in controlled conditions. Borrowed a Canon 180mm L for this shot (wow what a lens, I want one....).

Canon 5D, 180mm L macro, ISO 320, f6.3, 1/80th.

I would have prefered to use f8 or f11 for this shot to get more sharpness around the nose area but light levels were a bit low and had to compromise a bit.

I had real trouble on the white balance and colour balance with this particular shot. Please let me know if you think it is wrong, I have looked at it too many times now to make an accurate judgement.....

cheers

Sean

What a cracking shot Sean, expression is awesome with great detailed captured to. DOF to some might be an issue but for me I personaly would be very pleased with it, I think its a corker of a shot.

Nice one :toast:

Very striking shot Sean, you did well in the weak light.

I would have upped the ISO to give me an extra stop of dof. With the 20D I see very little difference in noise between 400 and 800 iso provided the exposure is spot on - and the 5D is reported to have even better low noise characteristics.

Hi Sean
I like the expression on the Toads face. Normally I would like more DOF but in this case the shallow depth of field in my opinion seems to add a mood to the picture.

Hi Sean, it's sharp where it needs to be, but that said I too would have upped the iso a bit just to gain DOF. I tried to shoot a toad with my 500 + 1.4 the other day (not recommendable), I would have loved a lens like the one you used

Hi Sean,

Would have liked more DoF but sharp where it needs to be. Colours and WB looks good on my calibrated screen. The 180 macro L is a very fine lens indeed and worth every penny IMO.

This kind of shot is all about the eyes and in that sense you have succeeded-Very nice image :toast:

Hello Sean
It would have gained a little for a bit more DOF, but still an image I like, he almost pops out of the monitor.
Best wishes

Yes Sean as they say the eyes have it. Bit more DOF and that nose would have as well.
They would have made it an even more striking image. :toast:

Only a shade more DoF just for the nose would have taken this to another level, as it is it's a very fine image, one I would have been pleased with

Colour balance looks fine to me.....

Like it a lot.

Hello Sean

The DOF doesn't bother me I like it the way it is.

This works for me Sean, the limited depth of field doesn't bother me at all as my eye is instantly drawn too, and held,by the toads eyes. :toast:
