Hey everyone. I know a few others have gone to the Nikon D800, so I was curious as to what others are using for their PP.
I use Capture NX2 for 95% of my editing and really like it, but since Google purchased Nik Software, Nikon is losing the U point technology for future software. They have already thrown out a beta of NX-D, which does not have U point tech. This is currently key to my editing. I'm fine for awhile, as I have a new computer with NX2 and my D800. In the future though, I'll need to find a new way.
What programs are my fellow Nikon shooters using for software? Lightroom? Photoshop? Nik? A combination? I'm interested in seeing what others are doing.
I don't have a D800 but I have pretty much switched over to Lightroom for most of my PP. Time to time I use NX2 for the skin tones but Lightroom serves my needs very well for most everything else. Using LR4- didn't see the need to upgrade to 5. There are a few Nik filters that I have in PS that I do not have in LR so I also use PS for those and cloning.
Another D800 Lightroom user here. I absolutely love and rely on Lightroom. I do probably 95% of all processing in LR and only use PS for the occasional stitching or blending.
Thanks for the feedback. Do you guys feel that lightroom renders the colors of the NEF files accurately? Back a few years ago, I had an old copy of PS and the colors were all kinds of wonky opening my D300 files. Thats one of the great things about NX2 is I know that when I open the file, its going to look like what it does in camera.
Sounds like a combination of Lightroom with the Nik plugins is going to be the best bet going forward... I think.
