Shadowlands
I posted this over on the Landscape gallery, but wanted to also post it here to get some more input.

While I took my share of iconic shots during my fall trip to Deadhorse Point State Park last fall, I was also interested in experimenting a little and trying to get something a little different. This image is one of my attempts at getting something a unique. As I was shooting at sunrise on a blue sky morning I noticed the reflection in the Colorado River as well as the interesting shadows contrasting with the glow on the walls of the butte.

I am interested in knowing how this resonates with viewers. All honest comments and critiques are welcome.

Specs:
100mm
f5.6 @ 1/125 sec.
ISO 100

Processing Info:
1. Basic curves layer to adjust global contrast with selective painting on a layer mask to reduce the impact of the adjustment.
2. Luminosity painting layer to bring up the highlights in the reflection and to add contrast in the bright canyon walls by painting with a dark brush using a "darks" channel selection using TK's actions.
3. TK's Vibrance mask.
4. Vignette Layer
5. TK's web sharpening action.

I really like the reflection here, without it, the comp wouldn't work nearly as well. I've always been a fan of telephoto landscape extractions and practice the technique frequently.

I really like Dead Horse and by going with an extraction you have something different than the normal shot. However, I am not totally sold on it. The bottom bright rock and the dark lower left bother me.

Maybe cropping a little of each.I also wonder if black and white might really work better for a light and shadow image.
