There's supposed to be a new meteor show this Friday night / Saturday morning. It has the potential to be the best one seen in a decade. Even if it doesn't turn out that well, the meteors are supposed to be larger and slower-moving than average, making it better for photography (if the clouds cooperate). Best viewing is expected between 2am and 4am on May 24.
Thanks for the information Grant...my only concern is whether or not the sky will be clear enough to view them with all these storms predicted to hit us through the weekend. Crossing my fingers....
Made a run out to Dantes View (east overlook Death Valley). Mixed partly cloudy - some rain, some clear spots. Clearing. Nothing seen, except for one meteor traveling west-east and unlikely part of the cloud. So it was a miss where I was.
The skies miraculously cleared up around midnight in Moab, despite all the weather sites saying they wouldn't. But the meteor shower was a bust. I caught a couple decent ones but this was with two cameras shooting for five hours each.
I went down to the Great Sand Dunes as it was the only spot in a 400 mile radius from Denver that showed clear skies at all on the Weather Channel radar. But by sunset it was all overcast and raining. I took a nice long hike along Medano Creek in front of the dunes but didn't take too many shots.
