It is essential that each of us have a system to backup and restore not only our images, but also other personal data and a system image in case of a failure.

The following article from Anandtech talks about various technologies you can use for backup.

Averting Disaster - A Guide To Computer Backups (2014).

The article applies to Win 7 and 8, and Mac OSX. It will be time well spent if you are looking for backup method.

I suggest that anyone looking to have cheap (free) and easy offsite backup to look into bit-torrent sync. I've been using it since the alpha version came out last year and it's changed my life (for the better). It's like having 5 TB of free drop box storage, provided you have access to several cheap computers in different places.

Preston, is using a program like Synctoy the same as backing up? I mean, you have a duplicate copy still, correct?

Bill,

I am not familiar with Synctoy, so perhaps another member will chime in.

One of the key elements of a backup method is being able to restore your files once the initial problem, such as a failed drive, is corrected.

If SyncToy can do this, then you should be OK.
