Secret Slot Canyon in Big Bend
Before my last trip to Big Bend I spent some time using Google Earth and Google Maps to look over some areas I wanted to explore. One thing I have found about years of going there is I am always finding new things. It is such a big park and so much there it is easy to overlook things. Add in that many things are unmarked and you realize there are a lot of neat things to find.

Looking over Google Maps I found what I thought might be a slot canyon. It looked like something worth checking out. I told my buddies who were with me that I saw something we might want to explore. I was not not sure if it was going to be something great or just a hike in the desert.

We went for it and found it was a neat little slot canyon. Not super deep but fairly narrow. We traveled the length of it and were impressed. I even went back at night for a chance to light paint it.

You can see more info and more pics on my blog.

Another daytime view. I know the light was not the best for a great image but it was what I had to work with. YOu can see some of the narrow sections here.

Great find, Darren! I see a lot of interesting possibilities...some late afternoon or early morning light would be worth trying.

Looks like a great place to explore. I use Google Earth a lot also. Sometimes it is helpful especially if you are already somewhat familiar with the location.

I like the lighting in the night view but I agree with Bill, it would be interesting to see what some late or early light would do.

It was far too clear of a trip this last time so I never got interesting light. However, I now have something for my next trip!
