The next stop on my road trip was White Pocket. I'd only been there once, for half a day and it rained much of the time so I went out for an afternoon/sunset and then camped to be there for sunrise. The afternoon we arrived there were a couple photography tour/workshop groups there and a six other vehicles in the parking area. Since the main area had photographers everywhere you looked and it was overcast anyway, I decided to explore places along the perimeter. I found this incredible alcove with beautiful color, patterns, and formations and spent a couple hours photographing it. The next morning I was surprised to find no one from the one remaining group had gotten up for sunrise so I had the place to myself. The skies were totally clear but it was a beautiful quiet morning with some nice soft pre-dawn skies. Any critiques would be greatly appreciated! Click on the link for additional images:

Scott, Neat spot you found with the alcove at WP. At first glance, I thought you were at SCB till I read your post. I like the closeness you have in Alcove IV (maybe consider a tighter crop removing some ULC?), the red light on the Staircase sunrise, and the soft pale blue light in Dawn II. The red rock across the bottom makes a nice base in Dawn II.
In White Pocket I, you have some nice texture in the clouds and the light/color looks pleasingly natural. I thought of a left crop to rid the edge of the next mound barely seen, but that would throw the main mound off-center.
The whole gallery is beautiful but Golden Alcove II is my favorite, love the in your face type effect and how the lines seem to explode across the screen.
I enjoyed looking at all the fine comps in the gallery. I think I prefer the wave ripple pattern in Golden Alcove II over the shot posted here. In the shot posted above I find that the very pale foreground lacks enough detail in comparison. I also like the interesting fins and super color in Golden Alcove IV. As for the WP shots my pick is WP Dawn II. I like the scrawny black scrub as an interesting point of interest and a good spot for the eye to rest while exploring the image.
