Thanks for the positive feedback on the goslings! Much appreciated. This image is from a recent trip to the Highlands. I thought I'd go for a different take on a well known and well photographed subject. I spent hours waiting for the stags to come close enough to use a 70-200mm so I could get that amazing scenary in frame. The only prob was by the time the stag were used to me being there, the sun had moved round to a 'not so great' angle... but what a place!

I realise its a little soft (the original is not) but needed to scale the compression down... its a biggy
I think your idea is good (deer against highland background) but the contrasty light and having the deer in shadow lets this shot down for me. With the right light this would be a stonking image. This shot would be improved if the deer stepped out into the light a bit more. Maybe next time
Agreed the Stag would be better off if he was in more light but this is still a fantastic shot. Sometimes all the elements we want don't fully come together but they are close enough here. Had this been a zoo shot or something then it may be more of an issue that should have been fixed but as its a wild animal in a stunning location and you had to wait around for hours I think you did superbly!

being a Scotsman that to me is a proper Highland Scene. But I am afraid I have to agree with Sean's comments.

Can fully understand why you wanted this shot.
Nice try and nice scene just a tad unlucky with the light
