My wife and i will be there (staying in Pigeon Forge) from 9/29 - 10/4. She has COPD and I have enough arthritis to keep me from much hiking. There seems to be an overwhelming number of sites and scenery to visit, and we don't really know where to start, but whatever we do will be limited to short walks and car drives. Right now, Clingman's Dome and Cades Cove are all we have on our agenda. I figure that is about a day and a half, which leaves 2 1/2 days. We are looking for the best photo sites we can get to by car. Help!
Cades Cove is worth multiple visits; early a.m. is my favorite; avoid it on the weekends, unless its raining. The drive between the Sugarlands Visitor center and the Wye (toward Cades Cove) is very nice with some nice places along the river; the drive from Sugarlands over Newfound Gap and connecting to the Blue Ridge Parkway is great with some wonderful overlooks throughout. Oh, and you will wnat to do Roaring Fork which is a short loop drive that has some beautiful pulloffs, especially on the back half, along a moss-covered stream that is among the most photographed places in the Park. Good luck and post what you come up with. And, p.s., it is good to see a post on thsi site again.
