I posted this a few weeks ago when the Creative Cloud app didn't detect that a new ACR was released, and it's happening again. 8.6 is out, I have 8.5 and my CC app thinks all is well.
So here's how to fix it, pasted in from the previous post with the pertinent file names changed. I did run through these instructions tonight and ACR 8.6 is happily running. This is for windows (if you own a Mac you can download ACR 8.6 from here and hopefully you know where it lives on your drive. UPDATE 8/1: thanks Keith, link is fixed, your link is the correct Mac link):
-Quit Photoshop and/or Bridge if running
-Download the direct installer for ACR 8.6 from this site. Just save it to the desktop because we will only be pulling a single file out of it.
-Unzip the file (right-click-->Extract)
-You will now have a Setup folder next to the zip file (you can delete the zip file). Open the Setup folder and then open the "payloads" folder that's inside of it.
-Inside "payloads" you will see more files and folders, especially 3 folders with names that are a mess. You want the folder named "AdobeCameraRaw8.0All-x64-230714021448". Open that.
-In THAT folder you will see another zip file called "Assets1_1.zip". Unzip that file. You'll now have an Assets1_1 folder. Open that.
-In the Assets1_1 folder you will see a single file that just says "1002" for a file name. That file is actually the Camera Raw Plugin. Change the name of that file to Camera Raw.8bi, and be sure to include the space, don't name it CameraRaw.
-OK, now that the ACR file is ready, we need to copy it to its new home. Open this location on your hard drive: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\File Formats.
-In there will be the older ACR file. Just delete it.
-Now you can drag the new Camera Raw.8bi that you made from the Setup folder into the location where the Camera Raw file needs to live (again, C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\File Formats). That's it! Fire up Bridge or Photoshop and you'll have ACR 8.6.

Yep..... Annoying. 8.6 downloaded through the cloud just fine on my desktop. On the laptop, nothing. Everything said it was up to date.
The Mac link you provided did not work for my Mac. This link does provide the proper installer for 8.6 though

Thanks Keith, link also fixed in my post above. This is so annoying, if we're not getting ACR, what ELSE aren't we getting? Are we on the latest Photoshop? Who knows? I do use many of the other apps as well (Premiere, After Effects, Audition) and right now I have zero confidence that I have the latest versions of any of it. I'm going to write Adobe and .
[Minor Rant] For a software company that does make good products and makes us pay handsomely for them, one would think that the update engine and the installers would just work[/Minor Rant].
Hopefully Adobe will get their act together!
I haven't committed to CC--still using CS6, and I'm happy with it. BTW: ACR 8.6 downloaded and installed on my system without a hitch.

That's been my main complaint and you guys know I've been one of the few cheerleaders for this subscription model. Adobe definitely leaped forth first with the all-subscription model, but if they were going to do that then they had the responsibility to ensure that the software processes to make it all work were more stable then they have been. Rollouts of new software always have bugs, but this event seemed like they were not ready. I'm sure the development department voiced that but finance and marketing probably forced it out. Gee, that's a rare scenario. NOT! Welcome to my dayjob and what I'd give to be a full time artist!

BW, I chatted with Adobe Tech Support and their suggestion was one that I should have expected and one that I should have DONE: uninstall the Creative Cloud app that controls the updates and licensing, and reinstall it. I'm sitting here wondering why I never even thought of that, lol! I think I'm going to start doing that weekly as part of the maintenance tasks I do for my PC.
I find it interesting that it happened on Keith's Mac, not his Windows machine. The code banks for Windows and OSX are different, completely different programming languages which tells me that the failure happened in the design stage before these guys ever hit a code window. Encouraging.

Paul: Both of my machines are Macs. My desktop is a Mac Pro, my laptop is a MacBook Pro, both running OSX 10.9.4.
I read about unintalling the Creative Cloud App and re-installing. I tried that in the last iteration when I could not get to ACR 10.5. It didn't help

Weird, why did I think you wee running mixed platforms? I need some sleep! Anyway, NOT encouraging about the reinstall not fixing the issue. But that's got me thinking: I posted a whle back about the login failing, where the fix was to delete a small binary file in the User folder so the CC app can create a new one. How much you want to bet that's where the corruption is, and doing an uninstall leaves those files behind, and thus the new install picks them up instead of creating new ones? Going to test this tonight.
