Hey folks,
I'm staying in Camp Sherman and plan to hike to Jeff Park via Whitewater unless air quality worsens greatly. I've never been, and I could use some recommendations on
lens(es) )to pack along. I'm thinking the Sigma 10-20 and the Canon 16-35. Am I crazy to bring both? Can I get by doing landscapes (not really expecting birds, wildlife) with just one of thse? If so, which?
My camera is a Canon 7D...crop sensor 1.6x.

Would you only be taking one or both of those lenses, and not something a little longer? I'm thinking you might want a lens with some closeup (if not true macro) capability for the flowers. 10-20 + 24-105?
Agreed with Greg! If you have them to bring, the wider angle lense (10-20) on your 7D, along with the 24-105 would provide for a much wider set of opportunities.
If you've never been to Jeff Park...prepare for serious bugs this time of year, but beyond that, what a stunning place.
If it's a day hike that you're doing, focusing on the lake basin is a good idea. If you're overnighting, the PCT continues north and provides great access to the northern ridge system. Wonderful views of the entire basin with plenty of opps for the longer lens.
Yep, I can take the 24-105. It's better for macro than the 100mm macro since I will be hiking with friends who would balk at my whipping out the focusing rail ;-). Thanks a bunch.
I've heard the bugs are legendary, but It will just be a day hike with deet. My knees say no to camping gear and camera gear combined. One of these days I'll find some friends to carry everything but my camera and sleeping bag, and then I could stay the night. W e're staying in Camp Sherman though, so short drive and all day to work with.

Have a great time Marylynne! It's been 30 years since I was at Jefferson Park but I remember it well. As Wesley said, it is stunning!
