I was bicycling along the Santa Cruz coastline last weekend (9/7). I have never seen so many whales in a 1.5 hr period. I suspect they were humpbacks. We saw many individuals (e.g. 10) surfacing repeatedly as they moved north, and they were in so close that we got a good view. It was hard to keep pedaling on bike as it was more fun to watch for whales.
