Rick,
I've been to Caddo Lake a couple of times, both in the Fall when the cypress were turning and found it quite colorful. I've stayed in a cabin in Caddo Lake State Park which was nice, It was built by the CCC but kept up fairly well and clean. Since I was canoeing, I found the paddle along the Cypress River to the main part of the lake a little long and a bit of a problem due to all the boat traffic. The last time we stayed in a lake front cabin in Uncertain, TX (Spatterdock) and it was a great spot for lake access (Even furnished a canoe w/gear and bicycles...not sure if this is still the case). There is also a small steamboat tour that made a good photography platform. Hope this is helpful, at least a couple of things to search on the net.

Hey Rick,,,,,,be sure to buy a map of the boat trails from the state park visitor center. Caddo is a maze of water and trees but the boat trail markers will get you oriented in no time. A boat of some sort is almost a necessity (I use a small kayak). Johnson Ranch in Uncertain is a good point of entry for that section of the lake. There is also a kayak put in for the Carter Lake area (Caddo Lake WMA Kayak Launch on Fr Camp Rd off of Hwy 43). It's labeled on Google maps. I usually camp in the state park and drive to the put ins. The Mill Pond at the park can be really nice to shoot when the water levels are down and you can walk around the perimeter. Hope you have a great trip.
