Anyone found a good in depth review on this latest Nikon speedlight ?

Also, whenever I look for reviews I find I am deluged with 'best prices' anyone know of a good site with good in depth reviews on all things photographic without trying to sell us stuff ??

Thom Hogan produced this limited review, which references this much more extensive review of the predecessor SB-80DX. Read the 800 piece first, then follow on to the 80DX and you'll have a pretty good picture of what is going on. I should point out that the few criticisms he had of the 80 were mostly rectified in the 800.

I've used Nikon speed lights since the SB-15 back in the 1970's as I recall, and the 800 is certainly the best product of a long evolution. I use it extensively for fill outdoors and as principal illumination indoors (usually bounced or through a softbox). It's truly a miraculous flash unit in my uses, especially when tied to the D2X.

That's a very thorough review, Kelly. Here is one of my photos over at TPN using the SB-800 for fill. Nuff said!
